Therapeutic Massage Therapy

“The practice of massage therapy is assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.” (Massage Therapy Act, 1991)

Massage has the ability to:

  • Reduce or eliminate pain
  • Improve joint mobility
  • Improve circulation
  • Improve immune system functioning
  • Increase lymphatic drainage
  • Reduce tension in muscles
  • Restore balance to connective tissue
  • Increase body awareness
  • Promote healing from certain injuries and medical conditions
  • Relieve anxiety and promote a healthier sleep

As a new patient you will be required to fill out a confidential health history form, have a physical assessment and answer questions to help create a treatment plan that is right for you to ensure a safe and effective treatment.

I will explain the risks/side effects and benefits of a massage treatment and all aspects of the treatment prior to your massage, including consent.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage eases the aches and pains associated with the physical changes of pregnancy, correct postural imbalances as well as prepare the body for the labouring process by relaxing muscles and opening up joints of the pelvis to assist in a healthy birth.

Cupping massage

This is the combination of massage movements and negative pressure with the use of a suction device on the skin. A cup is positioned at the area to be treated and, a vacuum is created within the cup to draw the skin and underlying tissue into the cup. The produced vacuum creates a suction effect that increases blood and lymphatic circulation systemically and to the local area, relaxes muscle tissue and support, draws stagnation, pathogenic factors and toxins out of the body and releases a myriad of pain causing factors

Muscle Energy

This is an osteopathic treatment in which the patient’s muscles are actively used on request, from a precisely controlled position, in a specific direction, and against a distinctly executed counterforce.

CranioSacral Therapy

(CST) – is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it’s effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
